I am Shāna – Artisana, fiber jewelry artist, traveler– with a passion for details, nature-based color palettes, and slow craft. I weave my pieces with a technique called Micro-Macramé, which is a South American fiber art of intricate knotting.

I am mostly self-taught, yet I learned the foundations of this fine art craft from traveling artisans while living in South America over the course of 13 years. I fell in love with the slow and rhythmical process, and the meditative space that emerges through quiet, repetitive knot tying.

My work is a long, slow journey inspired by the majestic geographies where I live and create, by the vibrant Latin American communities I’ve met who are keeping alive the value of handcrafted goods, and by the magical details of sacred geometry all around us in the natural world.

When I'm not on the road exhibiting at an art show, you can find me grounding and creating in one of my homebases in Colorado, the Carolinas, or Pisac, Perú.

Although dimensional, my pieces contain no internal wire nor glue. They are made of pure fiber. I use 1 millimeter Linhasita Brazilian waxed thread and I slowly tie each knot by hand– building the design knot by knot. There is no loom or needle used with this technique. I also rarely design the piece ahead of time, and prefer to let the shape emerge within the process.

My most intricate pieces contain around 200 individual threads, 6,000+ knots, and can take up to 60 hours to weave. I source all my semi-precious gemstones in person from lapidary studios in Perú, Ecuador, Mexico, and Argentina.
